Using That Covid Lockdown Time

Here's something new hopefully coming down the pipe... a book! Not a comic, but a BOOK.  A book book.  I had started the project when Covid hit, and found myself with a solid two months to run with something already rolling, which is always the way you want to be positioned.  Nothing worse than staring at a blank page (or screen, in this case).

The initial idea was to go YA with illustrations, but the final project's become a bit more intricate than that in the end. I suppose these are the decisions best left to agents, should any deem the product worthy of their time.  A wonderful experience so far, let's see if it finds a publisher. Hopefully, more news to follow!

Quarantine Sketch Requests

Obviously, there's some time to have fun at home!  I'll be posting daily sketch requests, this is the first.  If anyone has a sketch request, you can contact me through my illustration website (link is to the right).

A Double Barrell of Terror Returns in BH 3!

I WAS going to go with "Lounge Lizards" on the cover, but of course boards reared their ugly heads. I realized I'd never published this story, and it's more relevant than ever! Working on the online version, but send me an email for hard copy information! Very exciting things happening with Bloody Hell, looking forward to sharing the news.

Gotta HAND it to Her! (Nyuk, Nyuk)

Here's another new panel inserted into "GUTS" to open 'er, this short story's growth spurt never stops! It's worth it, though. Bloody Hell #3's going to be the best yet, by far!

Opening Things Up

My latest short felt a bit rushed in places, so I'm opening it up with some panels to let it breathe.  I contemplated making this my FB profile pic...but maybe not.

Commission Season is Well in Stride, Order Now!

Here's a gallery page pin up for Ian Bartolo's upcoming issue of the "Brothers" series.  Email me for commission orders, we're getting tight for the Silly Season, but a few portraits  head shot spots are still open! Email me at;

THAT's Putting your Finger on It.

it doesn't tell you much, but it tells you everything. Fun story coming along. (Quite proud of those hands).

Updates From the Edge...

Inks on "GUTS" are just about done!  Just to give the arm a rest. I scanned in one of the panels to paint up and throw out  preview/ The story that could never stay short has ballooned again to 16 pages which, I think, will fill out another "Bloody Hell" compilation book. Two more, then it's ready to look into getting it compiled into a trade paperback. I'm a few months away from wrapping up my current boarding gig, so things still won't really get rolling until the fall. In the meantime, I'll be getting more shots up as it comes together.

The Show Goes On (Sometimes All On It's Own)!

So much for conceptualizing! I sat down with a rough idea and a 12 page short story poured out, pretty much all there in a flash.  Bloody Hell #3 will be finished with this story, but it might take a bit of doing with the "real" job...worse things to complain about! Watch this space for updates, I'll replace this with the dialogue final as it comes around.

Time to Get Outta the Kitchen

Another sketch as I mull several ideas over.  I'm fortunate enough to be buried with storyboard work until next fall, but starting to feel the hole made by not feeding my own creative vices. The one-two punch of boarding on computer (a slower process) and facebook have wreaked havok on the chances of getting anything else done.  So, while I'm stuck with the cintiq,  I'm swearing off facebook for the month, and just going to crank out concepts and story ideas.  Keep an eye on this space; while it won't be as polished pieces going up, there will hopefully be a burst of proficiency over the month.

Discovering the joys of Windows 10; a trial version of Photoshop ain't working on my Surface Book, so, as I'm travelling, I had to finish this on my wee Surface 2 tablet! I sure hope I don't hit any walls with Sketchbook Pro as I've got work to do!

Gettin' the Yuletide Vibe!

I got a few hours to myself and just couldn't help it. Happy Post - Season farts and giggles!

A Kinder, Gentler Frankenstein

It appears my Frankenstein cover's too intense for the youthful masses on Drive Through Comics and got marked ADULT (which basically just means you have to sign in and lie about your age before you're allowed to see it).  For the sake of those poor innocent eyes, I've made a temporary cover for the cybershelves out of the last page of Mrs. Shelley's opus. Apologies for the confusion to folks that went looking for it and couldn't find it; the link will now carry you away to reanimation Nirvana!
Considering the tortures and soft porn of other title covers up there I'm at a bit of a loss, but hey, what does a sick fellah like me know? I've actually received a few poster orders for this one already, so I think I might get some made up as well as some calendars for the silly season. Contact me through my site (in the links at right) if you know you want one, otherwise, watch here for more info.

Happy 200th, Franky!

After a bit of a wait due to an intense schedule (close to a year workin' for da man, that is),  Frankenstein's FINALLY lettered and ready to go up on my digital graphic novel link. The hard copy'll be out in the new year but in the meantime, let's celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley's "Modern Prometheus" online and on your favourite devices!  I'll update here once I've got it uploaded but in the meantime, here's your first look at the cover.   ***There we go! Pop on over to Drivethrucomics for a preview, and your own E-comic for a measly 3 Bones! My other titles are there, so take a snoop around!***

Aaaah, that's better.

Quick sketch (believe it or not) via Sharpies & Photoshop.

Happy Days!

Here's a peek at a "Creepy" style project that found me, a nice short to squeeze in amongst boards during the summer....   ****REVISED****. Whew, that original composition was driving me nuts.

Get Back to Work!

Just enough time for a sketch before going back under into boards...always upbeat thoughts, y'know.

It's in the Shadows....

I'm in a concept phase right now, trying to draw(?) a bunch of visual concepts together into a narrative...ain't no rushing it.

Sketchy sketch

Ah, a day off from boarding, and no Franky to do! I'm gonna lighten things up a bit and get some negative space stuff ready for the convention open for commisions! Drop a line via my illustration website link to your left, whatever turns your crank.

Out to Sea

For those of you keeping track, I can't get past the last post which I'll be redoing.  I'll put a comparison up soon, as 47 pages of Frankenstein are now done aside from that and a couple tweaks & twerks. I enjoyed that more than I thought!

Keep on Smilin'!

Best to everyone over the Silly Season!

Wednesday, November 23, 2016

Due to a punishing storyboarding schedule, I had to find a resourceful way to get through this book asap, and have been quite happily surprised with the outcome! Believe it or not, thw whole thing's being done with Sharpie markers and Photoshop, resulting in a very energetic final product.  (Anyone that knows me from the cons knows my fondness of getting reckless on Sharpie fumes). This is a a panel about 4x it's proper size and hastilly coloured to finally get a post up here. I'll be going in and losing some lines and tinkering, but I think you get the idea. Nice, no?

It's All in the Eye

Page one, here we go!

Double Whammy Day!

Thanks to a busy schedule my Frankenstein adaptation'll be done in a more aggressive, sketchy style like this. I've been wanting to do a book more in line with my commission work for a while, but have had too much time to over render with brushes. If any story calls for a more energetic and rough style, it's this one. More to come!

In the meantime,  My subtler-than-neon dig at Trump short sightedness "America Owns the Moon" appears in this month's Heavy Metal magazine on the shelves soon!

Old School.

Big Bad Barda. Brush & ink, with a little felt tip accenting 11 x 17 commission. I've never drawn her before, she's a great character. Taking requests has definitely become my main activity at the Conventions, and I'm really looking forward to doing large quick gesture style commissions this year, it's going to be a party. Drop a line, this kind of quality looks great...well, in the bathroom, if you are attached.

By the way, I posted this on a FB inking page, had a bit of a back & forth with a guy regarding stle, brushes....and it became clear he'd never considered the fact this was a REAL BRUSH on REAL PAPER. Not his fault, I really am a dinosaur at this point, I guess.

Got aTaste for Something Original?

Aaaand off we go towards COMMISSION Season! There's some interesting requests coming down the pipe that I'm looking forward to sinking my teeth into already, and here's the first one out've the gate! If you have a request, drop an email through my illustration site link, or email me directly at See you at the Cons!

One Last Peek at the Moon Tale...

I'm finishing up the colors for this guy, my 1st foray into Sci-Fi, funnily enough. Nice to surprise yourself with where the "mental rolodex" of references build something subliminally and look at it objectively.

COMMISSION TIME! I'm doing a limited convention run again, but always happy to crank out requests. You be seeing some soon. Happy New Year, BTW!

Happy Holidays!

Thanks to the reno/Christmas/working for a living, I clearly haven't been as prolific as I'd hoped! Things ARE in fact rolling, and as you can see, our friends on the moon don't seem to be alone this holiday season, either! All the best for the new year, looking forward to seeing you at the cons!

What Could Go Wrong?

Inks are all done on my sci fi short, and I'm into colour. As you can see, it's a different style than usual. Don't be surprised rised if things still get messy.
Really messy.

To the Moon, Alice!

Now we're rolling.  I'm just finishing up inks on a sci-fi horror story, and thought I'd try some colour out before it moves fully into the digital realm. There'll be lots coming now, so stay tuned! Also, my short story Mary-Lou is in this month's Heavy Metal magazine (#277)! It's on the stands now, but if you take a peek in the link for free comics to the right, you regulars can check her out in all her hillbilly horror!

My contribution to this year's Calgary Comic Expo, which is bigger than ever at 4 full days of geekdom. It would appear this is the year of Game of Thrones at the Con, lots of celebs popping up on the guest list...I think I'm going to have break down and get a Stan Lee photo, I don't see him making many more visits.
Don't forget to get those commissions pre-ordered via my website link! It's the only way to be sure once the show starts chugging. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

My cover for the upcoming Edgar Alan Poe anthology coming down the pipe from the good folks over at Graphics Classics

Applause? No?

Huh. Okay, back to boarding...

I Digress...

Well, THAT feels better. (A quickie on the side at the office!)

Commission Season is Open!

One Mandarin/Iron Man commission finito, time to brave the Christmas crowfs at the shops.  I swear, it's been a few years since I was a 9 to 5er, how the hell do people get anything done?!

Nestling in for the Season...

Just settling into a long board supervision gig, but there's still room for some comics.  Here's an inked page for the Cloudscape Project;  nice to do something local.

Commissions have started for the upcoming Vancouver and Calgary Cons, it's the perfect time to get orders in before hand. I'll start posting them as they happen; I'll be back with an Iron Man one I 'm into now. Contact me through my site in the links!

Bloody Hell #2 Hits the Cyber Shelves!

After a bit of a sideline into Nosferatu-land, BH #2 is finally up here, and it's going to look like as shiny as well gnawed bones on your tablet! Hankering to stay old school and get a hard copy? No need for night terrors, I'll be on the convention circuit with 'em in tow, or you can order directly from any of my sites! (Look to the links to the right, fellow creatures of the night!)

What a great gig.

Nosferatu Finals!

I know it's teeny, but here's a sneak peek at where the Nosferatu finals are going.  It's a pretty tall hurdle to compete with the original black & white.  When I found out Graphic Classics wanted color my first thought was "uh oh!"
Break out the limited palette & do some noodlin' to age it up a bit, I think there's something at least honest and fresh goin' on.  More to come!

Bye bye, Summer...

Well, in mercy of the long road to Hallowe'en and all the Nosferatu images that are on the way, I thought I'd brighten up the room with this pick me upper. Courtesy of the aforementioned conceptual gig.
